Modeling of the interaction between the mechanical and neurophysiological properties of skeletal muscles. Study of the adaptative responses of mechanical and neurophysiological properties of skeletal muscles due to changes in functional demands, maturation, and aging. Interaction between elastic properties and reflex excitability involved in human movement.

Research Interest: Mechanisms of exercise intolerance in patients with hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.Neuromuscular limitations that contribute to skeletal muscle fatigue and central inhibition in cardiovascular diseases.Novel therapeutic strategies to treat musculoskeletal myopathies and reduce muscle fatigue in adults with heart failure .The contribution of locomotor muscle afferents (group III and IV) to central drive and cardiorespiratory responses during exercise in both healthy adults and those with heart failure. Interventions to reduce blood pressure and ventilation and improve exertional symptoms during exercise in chronic illnesses.Use of neuromodulation to reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension and heart failure.

Research Interest:Novel forms of optokinetic stimulation to enhance neuroplasticity of the brain’s balance and voluntary movement systems for recovery of voluntary movements and mobility after severe strokes, traumatic brain injuries and critical illness polyneuropathy. Other areas of interest include falls, reduced mobility in the elderly and both central and peripheral vestibular dysfunction. The main thrust is on investigating how visual-vestibular interactions enhance recovery and rehabilitation after severe neurological insults.
